A Cosy Valentine’s Night In: Cooking with Great British Extra Mature Cheddar

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to mean crowded restaurants or complicated menus. Sometimes, the most romantic evenings happen at home, with good ingredients, a simple recipe, and time to enjoy it together.

Our Great British Extra Mature Cheddar is made for moments like these.

Why Extra Mature Cheddar is perfect for cooking

With its creamy, smooth texture and deep, lingering flavour, this cheddar brings richness without overpowering a dish. It melts beautifully, adds depth to sauces, and turns everyday recipes into something special.

Recipe idea: Extra Mature Cheddar & Caramelised Onion Tart (Serves Two)

You’ll need:

  • Great British Extra Mature Cheddar (200g or 400g)

  • Ready-rolled shortcrust pastry

  • 2 onions, slowly caramelised

  • A splash of cream or crème fraîche

  • Fresh thyme

  • Black pepper

How:
Blind bake the pastry, spread over the caramelised onions, scatter generously with grated cheddar, add a few thyme leaves and bake until golden and bubbling. Serve with a crisp green salad and a glass of something you love.

Simple, comforting, and deeply satisfying.

Make it a moment

Serve your tart as part of a relaxed cheese board, with extra slices of Oak Smoked Mature Cheddar, Sea Salted Cradoc's crackers, and perhaps a spoonful of our irresistible Caramelised Onion Chutney. It’s a reminder that good food doesn’t need to be complicated to feel special.

Whether you’re cooking for someone you love or treating yourself, using quality British cheese turns an ordinary evening into something worth savouring.
